In: 04.19.09 Out: 04.20.24 Sound Bite: Nicolas Cage It is a big movie I mean when you think about it, it wasn’t uh you know Alex knows what he’s doing, he is a visual genius and he can design a shot to look spectacular he also you know shot the movie in Australia which means he knew how to get the most for his money, he knew exactly who to go to and he knew who he could rely on. Uhm you know so but but above and beyond just the the spectacle of the movie you you have a true family drama going on with this single father whose a professor at MIT and has a very intelligent young son and that makes the movie very special to me. It separates it from other apocalyptic disaster based films because there’s just a handful of people in the movie that you grow to care about and that relationship uh it it it works you know it’s a positive devoted relationship and I wanted that for uh for those of us who’ve been single fathers you know. |

The whole success of three men and a baby was based on that, all these guys are acting like buffoons trying to be alone with the kid but the truth is I don’t agree with that, I don’t agree with that and I think there are good fathers that are single fathers and we just don’t see movies about them you know its uh not popular to think that way. |

But let me just say that I do feel that its important for families to be together, its better if you can all stay together but that, that doesn’t always happen as we know and it doesn’t happen in this movie for the reasons you’ll discover when you go to the movie but that doesn’t mean it cant be a family that still works. |
