Sound bite: Beyonce Knowles
The movie and what the most challenging part and the costumes.
14:05:01 33.47
Well I don’t feel the pressure because once again it is an ensemble cast and I think Deena is one of the most least written characters in the film. So I don’t have the pressure and I…this was a learning experience and I feel like I didn’t recognize myself at all on the screen. This was probably the character that had the most range out of anything I have ever done before. I feel like I have worked with an acting coach. I have set aside six months, which I have never put aside six months for anything before in my life so I really focused and try to become a student of acting. I did everything I was suppose to do and I see the result of it.

Yeah, yes. I definitely did. When Bill, the director, when we had our first meeting he told me he wasn’t sure if I could play young Deena because people have such an idea of who I am as a celebrity and wouldn’t believe it so really you know, he told me I had to do a screen test and I was happy to do that so I found the ugliest dress and a really bad wig and I wore no make-up with really thick eyebrows in the screen test and I found the fabulous gown and auditioned for the later Deena and he told me wow, we found our Deena so I knew I wasn’t worried about that because if you can act you can act and people believe you in any character that you play. To be honest with you, me on stage is really nothing like me in reality.
14:07:21 173.47
Absolutely. You know I’ve always admired the fashion and all the stories from that time and now I feel like I have lived it in a sense and everyday I transformed. It was easy for me to become the character. And just going through all the racism and all the crazy things that come along with the downside of being famous. It was interesting and it was a learning experience for me because before that, Destiny’s Child and myself, we wouldn’t be able to travel around the world and be played on the radio and all the other things that we are able to do now.

There are certain, from the outside looking in, there are things that might look like similarities. But really, you know, obviously I started out in a group and had a solo career, it stops there. The dynamics in the group, we are friends, we holidayed together. We vacationed together, we love each other. Deena is the lead singer because she doesn’t have a lot of soul, she cant’ really sing, it is just because of her look. I’m the lead singer because of my voice, because of my talent. They fight over men, we would never do that. They controlled, I’m not, I’m in control. It’s just so different. But it was fascinating for me to play something that was the reason why I don’t recognize myself at all because I really became this woman for six months.
