Sound Bite: Steve Martin – physical comedy
Well I’m trying to think back. There’s it’s always a little bit scary, I know I was running alongside a car with my hand trapped inside a window, that’s a little scary. Whenever you’re suspended by wires it’s a little scary. Um but generally the safety features are so in place that there’s really no danger. I recall trying to balance on the globe as I roll across the floor on a globe.

Sound Bite: Steve Martin – on Jean as the dining guide in France
He knows that world really really well, and he’s a connoisseur. So he would have the cheese trays coming and the desert trays coming he’s a great guy.

Sound Bite: Steve Martin- how long was the banjo album in the making
Well that I’ve been playing the banjo for about 45 years and I’ve been composing songs all along, and I thought, now’s a great time to record these songs. We got Mary Black and Dolly Parton and Vince Gill and Tim O’Brian to sing some of the tunes, but mostly it’s an instrumental record of 5 string new 5 string songs for the banjo.

Sound Bite: Steve Martin – on SNL
It’ll be the 15th time they tell me. (talks) I think it is, not that nobody’s tried to have a record. (talks) Yeah he’s probably pretty jealous.

Sound Bite: Steve Martin – most fun about being this character
Well I think it’s um it’s sort of corny actor thing, but being completely enveloped by another character and walking around talking like this, what are we doing, and dressing up in a funny costume and acting silly. It’s just um it’s why I went into show business, and here I am still doing it.

Sound Bite: Steve Martin – on jumping from the music world to the comedy world
Well I really just wanted to be on stage and when I first got on stage I started as a magician actually and then I started narrowing the magic portion down and I brought my banjo on stage because I just wanted to fill time, I was a juggler I could do that, and I worked up a few comedy routines and that’s how it began, you know it’s been the same way ever since really.
