Description: TV SHOW, BLACK JOURNAL, WITH HOST LOU HOUSE, COVERAGE OF ISSUES CONCERNING BLACK AUDIENCE Initial Broadcast Date: March 13, 1972 30 minutes -- Color Black historian John Henrik-Clarke charges that Europeans have “whitened-up” black history, going back to ancient times. “Contrary to popular belief, Cleopatra was not a white woman and never looked like Elizabeth Taylor,” says Clarke, who is interviewed on Black Journal program, “Great Men of Color.” A writer, educator, editor and historian, who is known internationally for his contributions to contemporary black culture and Afro-American history, Clarke also says that if Europeans had acknowledged that Ancient Egypt was black, “It would have thrown history all out of kilter.” Clarke also tells Black Journal that “most of us (black historians) got our information from white racial writers.” Clarke is Associate Professor of Hunter College’s Black and Puerto Rican Studies Department in New York City. He has updated and supplied the bibliography for the two-volume “World’s Great Men of Color,” authored by the late Joel A. Rogers. Rodgers devoted 50 years of his life researching the great figures of Black African descent and died in 1966. His books reveal that many men of African descent were primarily responsible in the development of nations, civilizations and cultures. “Black Journal” is a production of WNET New York.
