Description: TV SHOW, BLACK JOURNAL, WITH HOST LOU HOUSE, COVERAGE OF ISSUES CONCERNING BLACK AUDIENCE Initial Broadcast Date: November 28, 1972 30 minutes -- Color Black Journal will present a special report on the Black Christian Nationalist movement. The program traces the development of this new doctrine for the black church. The Reverend Albert Cleage, pastor of the Shrine of the Black Madonna in Detroit, will be a guest on the program. Reverend Cleage, one of the founding fathers of Black Christian Nationalism, notes that many black clergy are beginning to reject the traditional concepts of the Christian Doctrine in favor of a new theology, one that recognizes the needs of the black community. In Detroit, Reverend Cleage’s church is the nucleus of a Black Liberation movement structured on a system of African communal work programs (UJAMMA) and guides by the concept of Jesus as a Black Messiah. The church has established a food co-op which offers its members goods at one half the supermarket price. Volunteers grow vegetables for the co-op on land purchased with church funds. The Shrine of the Black Madonna is also producing inexpensive clothing and jewelry. The Black Christian Nationalist movement is expanding rapidly. Groundwork is being laid for Black Christian Nationalist churches in New York City, Atlanta and Washington, DC. “Black Journal” is a production of the national programming division of WNET/13.
