Geoprge talks with interviewer about a project he took on to raise money for China Village (at the World's Fair). He laughingly explains he was enthusiastic about it and raised money, not as much as he expected. He got to know and realize from the Fair what a "large huge society this world is". He states he feels that having the exhibit made a difference in people's attitude towards China and that people didn't realize there was a war going on there.

George explains that the second year of the exhibit made up for what they lost the first year. After they built the China Village he kept hearing it was a losing proposition, comparing it to the 1915 Panama Exposition and the Chicago Exposition all lost money.

George talks about how the people in Chinatown felt about the China exhibit. He states they were happy and proud about it, that it served an important purpose that they were represented there and didn't lose face because they were in a war. He talks about how Japan was attacking China and the government couldn't afford to participate.

Z'in on George's face. Interviewer asks him if it was strange for Japan to have a big pavilion and celebrations. George states they felt they were lucky to have China represented. Plane overhead interrupts.

Interview continues. George states they always felt under pressure about their exhibit because Japan had so much money and had planned their participation where the Chinese exhibit was publicly financed and was a volunteer job - there was no money set aside to do the job. They winged it as they went along.

George talks about how eventually all of the nations around the Pacific Rim will become closer economically and business wise, but is not sure if the people would become closer. And that he feels more contact between the people as the distance becomes shorter, would help the become more unified.
