Sound Bite: James McAvoy Different than anything you have done before
This film is entirely different from anything I have ever done which is really the reason, the main reason why I did it was um to give myself a new challenge really um to test myself in a field that I had never been tested in before and see if I could learn something new. And also because I felt it is sufficiently different from most action movies, I have seen a lot of superhero movies and a lot of action movies these days that are for kids and there for granddads and grandmas and everybody in between and this is not that this is for adults only this is you know pulls no punches, it doesn’t cut behind someone’s head when they throw the punch you see the punch land and you see it slip someone’s nose and you have the whole graphic thing it get very kind of the art is almost kind of the art is in the violence a lot.
Sound Bite: James McAvoy did you get punched?
I got smacked a couple of times in the face in this movie but not that many, but ah you know it’s when people are throwing body punches you get a little bit looser cause you’re thinking it’s not the face you know it’s not the face it’s not the face not the face dear. Um so you end up getting bruised up a little.
Sound Bite: James McAvoy had to do a lot of training
I did a fair bit of training yeah I just needed to to get thought the film it was four and a half months of this and I think you know I could do most of the things no problem but doing it twelve times for four months everyday and everyday I needed to be fit for this so I went down to the gym and it’s kind of strange cause it’s not really what I like to do it’s not my natural environment at all and but it was good.
Sound Bite: James McAvoy persona and accent are different from other movies you have done.
Yeah the character is much darker than the people I have played, less hopeful than the people I have played before even though the films that I have been in have been dark or sedulous or whatever and but yeah yeah different really really different for me um but again you know I am Scottish and I very rarely get to play Scotsman. I’ve played two Scotsman in ten years so playing an American is as different as playing an Englishman, really, so it’s just an extension of everything else that I have played in my career.
Sound Bite: James McAvoy another great leading lady
Yeah totally I have been very very lucky um, just because of the fantastic actors never mind the fact that they are true movie stars or anything like that but um yeah great people. Great people good fun candid to a woman all good fun.
Sound Bite: James McAvoy Angelina fun to work with?
Yeah Angelina is great fun, great fun you know she is one of the worlds biggest stars and to be honest you do get a little nervous about that when you hear she is cast but within five minutes of meeting her you can go this is going to be fine man she can have a laugh at herself as well as others and you know that is important.
Sound Bite: James McAvoy Were the paparazzi everywhere?
No not really, I mean I didn’t hang out with her at night time so I didn’t know what her life is like, her private life but, (talking) no this is the weird thing you know I sometimes wonder if, I’m sure her life is you know media written and all that but um I sometimes wonder if the story is embellished just to create another story that her life is as mad as it is, I don’t know, maybe it is as mad as it is reported but but um but it never once was evident when we were making the film in Prague, I think uh twice in Chicago there was someone in a building that was taking some pictures, it’s not, it’s hardly someone running across a freeway risking life and limb to get a picture of the Hollywood start but you hear when you hear the stories you think that must be her life every single day but I don’t know I can’t really comment on it, even though I just have.
