Well Ben Sherman has been around since 1963. We dressed The Beatles and The Who, it’s a British brand and we have a whole music heritage so we figured what better place to represent it than the Grammys gifting suite.

There’s lots of great people. One of my clients today, Jack Black, is going to come in and he’s apparently going to be presenting an award so I’m really excited about that. Love him, he’s really fun. We work with people like the Foo Fighters, we work with Paramore, um you know we work with other bands like No Doubt. Adrien Young is going to come in so excited about that. So.

Some of the more popular items I’m finding this Grammys are the bow ties, um a lot of guys, it’s a lot of fun, but the new trend of bow ties, instead of actually doing up a bow tie, people wearing bow ties untied and it’s just kind of a fun look. It’s loose, it’s casual, it’s a mix so, that’s kind of exciting and I’m finding Will.I.Am stylist was here yesterday, she picked up 5 of them. Randy Jackson picked up 2 but I have a feeling it was for his driver. He kind of said it was for him but we’ll see.

Ben Sherman does really cool hats. Uh this hat in particular is unisex so we had yesterday um we had taboo was in and he loved them so much he took 3 of them so that was kind of cool. Uh they had a Grammys preconcert and I noticed that Neyo was wearing this brown corduroy one so that was pretty neat. So that’s pretty fun. Um we also. Um so the hats we find everyone kind of thinks that it’s a good staple, it really kind of spices up the outfit, and you know it kind of works across the board.

These are kind of, you come home after the Grammys you put something a little bit more kind of casual on. The vest right now is really popular. Duffy was in yesterday and I gave her a full package. We’ve got Estelle coming in today as well and she was in our Soho store in New York and bought a bunch of women’s pieces recently so it’s kind of like a little bit more fun kind of preppy, sexy preppy thing going on.

So this suit um it’s a tuxedo suit. It’s a mod fit which would be a little bit more slender cut. It’s really flattering. This is something I pulled for Jack Black so cross my fingers, hope that he will actually wear it. I’d love to have him wear it. I’ve pulled a bunch of different neck wear to go with it, so he could either do the ski tie and I’ve got you know kind of a preppy look here. I’ve got an iridescent green and then obviously the black. The gray also looks really sharp with it. And if he wants to spice it up and do something fun I’ve also pulled one of the bow ties so and I’ve got these really cool shoes to go with it as well so you know hopefully we’ll see that on the red carpet.

We are all the way here from Norway. Exotic little Norway. Our brand is Moods of Norway. We combine the Norwegian countryside with national fashion trends, so obviously all the clothes are made in Europe by really really pretty blond girls. All the pants are inspired by deep fjords, a few cocktails, and a grandmother with exquisite tastes. And uh yeah we basically just uh we make the best fashion suits in the world right now.
01:10:06 604.73 thumbnail
Sound Bite: Stefan Dahlkvist
Yeah well, what we do is we’re Moods of Norway so we make different clothes for different moods. So we make street clothes, casual clothes, and what we love to do is the cocktail moods. This part of the collection here is obviously the cocktail part of the collection which we love to do. So this is pretty much for the rock stars and people who like to stand out a little bit and um dress like they’re having a good time. So again, like this one is a very shiny one and on the inside you kind of have the martini glass and the tractor, the logo is the tractor and so Norway obviously is a farming nation. Um on the sleeve here you have an interesting number. It says 229,265. And that of course is the amount of registered tractors in Norway.

This is fantastic. We just picked this fabric up uh well, this fabric was just found in Paris. It was the absolute newest fabric we could find. I don’t think you find any other suit in the US right now with this kind of shiny psychedelic fabric.

Yes well we’ve had uh some really good experiences with Mr. Tommy Lee from Motley Crue uh Sisco Adler and a bunch of other American I guess. Adrien Young from No Doubt and uh of course a bunch of, Robbie Williams from Europe. Yeah we’ve um what we like to do with this cocktail collection is actually design clothes for the celebrities because it is so fashion forward and uh colorful and strong. We believe that people who like to be on stage and shine really enjoy this part of the collection. And we also do a lot of casual stuff.
01:14:10 848.73 thumbnail
Sound Bite: Stefan Dahlkvist
Yeah of course we have this beautiful flowers all over the suits but you can’t ever forget your heritage. It’s the tractor. Norway is obviously a farming nation, so uh in whatever we do we just try to integrate the tractor in that. For instance in the flagship stores we have a full size tractor in gold and uh we just basically want to bring golden tractors here to Hollywood.

It’s primarily an outer wear line. It’s a lot of weather pieces and I threw in some ? recently just to you know juxtapose you know the hard and soft I like to dress myself. Um yeah.

Yes there are. I can’t remember everybody, but Fergie is wearing something tonight which I’m very excited about. Paula was a huge fan yesterday which was very very exciting and um Rosario Dawson is going to wear something um, Miley Cyrus, who else, Cheryl Crowe. Yeah. We’ve got some good people.

The barbell spine jackets. I thought it would be fun for one of the rockers to wear. Um as I’m inspired by natural history. The metal, my branding is sort of, like a metal piercing, a neck piercing, so all the leather is pierced in the back of the neck so for these I decided to do a whole spine which is a little over the top but it’s okay, someone will wear it. And um yeah, that’s it.

My collection was named No Discipline and this is a little bit of what could be No Discipline in my view of uh dresses. It’s very glamorous and has a movement and volume and sand painting and that’s it.

Yes hopefully today will hold answers because yesterday we had a lot of fittings and maybe a few of them will be on the Grammy Award Dresses. Yesterday we had uh Keisha Cole for the Vanity Fair party. She was wearing our dress. She was hosting it was great. And we’re hoping for the Grammy Award to be there and hopefully we’ll be at the Oscars.

I’m showing my jewelry. I’ve got custom handmade silver jewelry and um I have a line of limited pieces, they’re all numbered on the back. They’re all sort of inspired by um the songwriting process and the creativity involved in making music and I like to have my pieces be imperfect. I sort of see each of them like a song and by making them sort of, I came to the music world so I relate to this really easily but when you’re doing like a vocal in a studio and you sort of do this vocal take the first time all the way through and there’s little imperfections in it but it feels really good and it feels really honest, you really want to keep those imperfections in to give it that real kind of meaningful honest feeling. So all of my jewelry has imperfections and little wrinkles and little tracks that make it feel really good and uh I handmake all of them so all of the designs are inspired by that process and that form of art that I just translated into jewelry.
01:34:15 2053.73 thumbnail

No 2 pieces are the same. Even the limited pieces that I make only a thousand of each piece and then once that is all sold out I move on and kind of keep that line rotating. But each of those are finished by hand so they all kind of have a different feel even though they’re cast from one exact original design, so the newest design that I have that I’m debuting this week is called The Troubadour. I’m wearing that one right now. This one right here. And that’s um, the texture of the piece is really what’s special about it. I think the other designs in my limited collection I’ve done different types of shapes and different textures that are very um you know able to be interpreted in certain ways. Like any song um and this piece I really wanted to weave the history of music right into the piece so I took soft clay and pressed it into the wall at the Troubadour Club on Santa Monica. I think it’s just one of those historic venues around town that’s had so much happen in it and um the keyhole in the piece is sort of symbolic of that looking through that keyhole at that little room and all that’s happened in there so this piece benefits the Music Cares foundation and it’s a foundation that I’ve been supporting a lot the last couple years. I’ve got some other things coming up with them but I think to give back to the music community that has inspired me so much in my art has been really fun to do and fun to give back those musicians.

There are. I mean I came from a record company so sort of like where I started my business was with artists and musicians so I haven’t I’ve promised a lot of them that I wouldn’t talk about who was wearing my stuff because I’ve made I also do lots of custom designs so most of the designs that I’ve done for artists has been custom pieces that are you know really super personal meaningful things about their family or their kids or things like that so I don’t really publicize that part of my business very much because I want it to be special for everybody. Um but you know this week I’ve had a lot of stylists this week coming for things like Kings of Leon um you know the Dixie Chicks. Um some other photos coming up some of my other favorite bands so it’s been a really good week for getting the word out and you should be seeing these pieces on a lot of people at the Grammys and just kind of out walking around.
