I was in her skin, it wasn’t easy and that’s just why I kept saying no to this project because I didn’t know who this person was and he he’d and our director couldn’t explain it and I was like well he’s obviously hiding something because he doesn’t know how to explain the character he wrote, that doesn’t make any sense. He said you just have to meet Leigh Anne and I went ‘ah’ now I know why he couldn’t explain her, she is an amalgamation of so many things that aren’t supposed to go together (talks) gun totting you know born again Christian you know like and and this spirit that you know and so open to talking about it, so open about having a conversation where I said you know what I generally don’t buy you people. What I mean by you people is someone who holds the banner of who they are rather then just being a good person and she completely opened my mind to what faith is to her and what being a Christian is to her and I was like wow, were having a conversation about religion that is healthy and hopeful and good, rather than you know and I I, she was a tough nut to crack and I don’t think I cracked her but I do think I embodied her essence. |

That’s not Leigh Anne Touhy she’d never say that. She had a musical note on something about the score, that was it, that was it (talks) No Leigh Anne Touhy is, she does exactly what she thinks, the isn’t soft, there isnt oh you got my life and that’s the hard part to find the crack in someone, the crack in the veneer in someone whose not going to give you the crack in the veneer, they’ll do everything they possible can do to hide it. So I had to do some digging, digging in Leigh Anne Touhy. And uh but she was so available and open to the point where we drove her nuts. She said we needed to get a life and I said but I’m playing you so I need some information. But uhm I know that they are happy with the end result, they know it’s a movie (talks) and that’s the good thing, they know the difference between real life and a movie. |

I had a hard time buying it when I knew it was the truth (talks) I did I said I don’t buy it, I don’t believe it, I don’t believe that this is the way it happened, I don’t. And once you meet the people and once you see that there is an edge and that there is an – you know I love the part where they question there motives, why did you do it, that even the government questions there motives and I love that and I said we really need to hit on that because people in the audience are going to be doubting and uh you need those darker moments and the underlining sort of questions of peoples good faith in order to make you believe that they are, that they’re being for real. You know when it’s all to good no one wants to buy it. |
