Sound Bite: Mark Wahlberg INTERVIEWED FOR FILM "INVINCIBLE"
It was a dream come true, I have always said that I much rather be an actor, I mean an athlete rather then an actor you know I just this is what I was able to pull off, you know this is where I was able to sneak in but being able to do this is of course a dream come true. Being able to put on a an NFL uniform and going out there and making pretend for four months |

Yeah you know it was weird they knew when I came in that I was just going to go all out. I was going try to make it real and I was willing to get in there and band and they took advantage of that to a certain extent but after a while they knew that I was only so tough, they maybe brought it down a notch but you know we wanted to make it real. And yeah I had to learn the hard way how hit because I’m used to playing football were grabbing at the neck, close line you know whatever you can do. Usually you just get a piece of the shirt and you try and fling somebody down, this is just hitting and I needed to learn how to put my helmet on somebody get that shoulder down. Because even when I was just tackling I was getting banged up but you learn pretty quick when you get out there. |

Yeah it was just like you know the only difference between Philly and Boston is you know Boston has three deckers and Philly has roadhouses you know. It’s really pretty much the same thing except we you know they got the cheese steak and you know we got the Finway Frank it’s not that different. You know these are real guys who are die heart. You know Philly probably has the best fans in the world you know winning or losing they’re there and there real and they mean it and that’s who Vince was. And given the opportunity to get out there on the field he was just playing for the Eagles he wasn’t playing for himself. He wasn’t saying ‘ oh well let me get my stats up and let me see how many tackles I can make and maybe I’ll get a better contract if I play better next year’. No he just wanted the Eagles to win and that was it and that really doesn’t exist to much anymore, I mean it certainly does for the fans but the players most of them are from somewhere else and they come there because there getting the best deal there. |

You know he was comfortable with me being in the role, he was involved in every aspect. He was there everyday that we shot and I was convinced and I had him convinced that I could make him happy it was the rest of Philadelphia that holds him in such high regard they were concerned of my portrayal of Vince Papale and they reminded it everywhere I went every bar or every restaurant I went to they were like ‘hey Wahlberg you mess up Papale and you’re not welcome in Philadelphia’ and I took that very seriously. And also having the experience in Perfect Storm which was such a sensitive issue you know and so many people lost there lives and there family members and having respect there feelings and there loss. This was much more of a uplifting experience everybody was really happy this was happening. They knew I would get my ass kicked if I didn’t do it right. |
