OC: (The wife) Maybe when you married me.
Robert: Are you kidding me, that’s the best move of my life, I was down and out in Beverly Hills, you remember that. No not really, you play it as it lays that’s the name of the game.
Wife: He’s very serious so he makes his decisions very carefully.
Robert: Listen I was born in the depression and you know, in 1930 and those were hard times and what brought us out of the depression was the war and um, in New York City on the lower east side those were tough times, it’s a victory for survival, so to be alive and well in Beverly Hills.
Wife: No doubt.

That they should know for actors, Acting is a craft, you learn your craft, like a painter anybody in the arts a painter, a sculptor, an actor, a singer, whatever you train, you train your instrument and for an actor you must read, you must know Shakespeare and Chekov, so when you get to say “Drop the gun Louie,” that’s pretty easy stuff after saying “Speak the speech I pray you and so it trippingly on the tongue.”

Well you know the first part when you start writing the screenplay, adapting a play is very difficult, cause a play is conceived, this particular play had 4 characters and know one else and just a few locations, but as I started to think about it I realized it was an opportunity to celebrate the whole neighborhood that I come from, that I knew the parishioners, that I knew the kids in the class room, that I knew a lot more than I was allowed to show on stage, because we didn’t have the money and in a film, you can hire everybody and get them into period clothing and go out there and really capture the entire experience, so ultimately it turned out to be a wonderful and freeing thing, but it first it was very intimating.

I’ll direct again, but I don’t know what yet, I’m talking to a couple of people, about a couple of things, but I’m not sure what to do next.

Well I guess joining the Marine Corps that was a big decision for a 19 yr. old kid, it worked out for very well for me, but I wouldn’t recommend to everybody.

Fantastic, I love her, did I say I love, I love her, I love Meryl Streep.
OC: Are you paying any attention to any of the Oscar buzz around you?
Viola: I’m trying not too, I’m just not trying to be obnoxious and egotistical, cause I feel like crap, you know when I just even think about it, but um, I’m trying to enjoy the moment and I’m trying to feel like a princess, cause that is, I didn’t grow up a princess, so I’m trying to enjoy the moment.
