Oh James is wonderful, he’s so much fun and he’d been there by himself when Chris Pratt, another actor and I got there and so he was very happy to see us and we had a very wonderful time in Prague, which is absolutely one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and he’s great to work, I mean you can try anything with James and he’s gonna be right there and come back with something wonderful and every time he gives something wonderful it just takes you up another one and you just keep going so, he’s very easy to work with and it was even hotter there than it is here so.
01:19:59 1084
A16. HRN-2379
In: 01.19.59 Out: 01.20.25

Oh it was terrific, and being in Prague and um it was very hot, it was very hot but you know big deal. And we hope everybody thinks the movie’s hot too, so maybe that’ll come through. And he’s a great guy. He’s not bad to look at, so, but I think his wife’s here, so hahaha. She’s a wonderful actress too.

A lot of it was in our imagination, but the truth is I’m as a man I’m very interested in art direction, you know and the art direction on this was absolutely exquisite, you know, so we went to these old castles in outside of Prague, strange medieval villages and inside there were these amazing sets that’ve been constructed so you have a feeling, you have a sense of the world that Timur was creating. Obviously my, I was only on it for like a week, you know, but I got that immediately, and the other thing I got was when you’re working with um when you’re with somebody that really knows his stuff and it’s original, it’s funny, this kind of alchemy happens and the crew becomes a troup and you feel like Shakespeare’s troup must of felt like, so you get empowered by that. So the long hours and the difficulties of the shoot and the action and the physicality of it is you’re more than recompense for it, you know, because you know you’re gonna be in something good, I mean you don’t really think about what critics, because critics you know there’s now accounting for taste, but the fact is you know when you’re doing some good work and that’s why we do it, you know.

Yeah, yeah, you’re happy to get up in the morning and happy to drive to work, you know, and you’re very happy to get kissed by Angelina before she goes into makeup you know. (talks) Even though she talks about Brad all the time.
01:23:20 1285
A19. HRN-2379
In: 01.23.20 Out: 01.24.39
Sound Bite: Terrence Stamp – assassin question
Well I have thought about it, because you know my first Hollywood film I played a serial killer, you know I was the first serial killer on film. So it’s not too big a step to go from teenage serial killer to fully grown assassin, so you do have to think about it, and um and it must be a very strange occupation really. And I have a feeling that they don’t have like most of us, we don’t really have a lot of choice. Do you know what I mean like, I’m sure you know that you’re propelled to do things and you don’t know why you did them and I’d long talked with John Hurt about it because we did a film called The Hit, and he played you know a very very frightening assassin, and he went into it deeply, he said no no, he lives with his mother, you know what I mean like his whole life about, an assassin like couldn’t have another life, you know what I mean, if you’re killing people for money, you know, yeah.

Yeah I’ve been very lucky so far. (talks) Uh my career’s different, I spend a lot more time away from home, um uh I have been starting to get offered the kind of jobs that I never would have been offered in a million years, 3 or 4 years ago, but other than that my life’s not changed, it’s really changed professionally, but my life, my own life is just the same.
01:31:17 1762
A23. HRN-2379
In: 01.31.17 Out: 01.31.49
Sound Bite: James McAvoy
Um yes I did, I had to do like six weeks before they even started the film, and the film took about 4 and a half months, and I was doing training 5 times a week, sometimes twice a day, doing kick boxing, even though I don’t kick box that much in the film, but just to get me throwing punches stronger, to get me to just hold guns stronger even uh kick boxing, free weights, interval training, fight rehearsals at the same time, actually filming the stunts, because I do them myself, it was a big old pain in the backside.
01:31:56 1801
A24. HRN-2379
In: 01.31.56 Out: 01.32.12
Sound Bite: James McAvoy – assassin question
Uh well, yeah, when I was a kid I used to want, I used to think about being a vampire, and that was very exciting to me. And they’re kind of like sort of romantic assassins aren’t they, so that was a bit it though.
01:32:14 1819
A25. HRN-2379
In: 01.32.14 Out: 01.32.52

01:33:08 1873
A26. HRN-2379
In: 01.33.08 Out: 01.33.32
Sound Bite: Danny Elfman
Well that’s what makes it fun, it’s just that. It’s like, what is this universe? And uh it’s really more about getting inside Timur’s head, it’s about getting inside the director’s head, and he’s got kind of a wild thing going on in there, so it was a really great mini universe to tap into, the world of Timur.
01:33:39 1904
A27. HRN-2379
In: 01.33.39 Out: 01.34.21
Sound Bite: Danny Elfman
You know it was kind of uh an accident, um Tim Burton used to come and see my band, and before he was a director, and so Paul Reubens as Pee-wee Herman knew of me also through this other thing I had done, and so when they got together, they were saying who should I hire, my name was kind of on both of their lists, so Tim called me up and introduced himself and I said, you’ve got the wrong guy. So I saw Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, I saw the movie, and I said I really like it, but I don’t wanna mess up your movie, I don’t wanna be responsible for ruining your movie, and he was just like, well I really just think you know you should take a whack at it, and I was like alright. Cool, I will.

Sound Bite: Thomas Kretchmann
Uh no I haven’t been to the gym, I wasn’t in the gym last time in 1995 but I used to be in the national swimming team in East Germany, so muscle memory you know, and I have 3 kids and I throw them around a lot, um no but I had learn handling the guns you know and um and I had opposite Angelina there, who knows how to do that so well as we know from already from Mr. and Mrs. Smith you know so she has like this instinctive fighter, she ? fighting block, you know and I never I never dealed with guns really you know and I’m supposed to be the best assassin around so uh I tried to get my shit together you know and I did like excessive training with guns.
01:40:14 2299
A31. HRN-2379
In: 01.40.14 Out: 01.40.53
Sound Bite: Thomas Kretchmann
The stunts we did everything ourself, I mean everything where I was involved um the crazy stuff is crazy because of the editing and the special effects right and the CGI but we did everything ourself, it’s like it’s not like circus stuff you know it’s not like jumping from roofs, it’s more I mean not in my case, somebody did it actually, but it was more like fighting you know and running because I noticed that James is 20 years younger when we were running uh but the fighting lots of bruises and stuff, you know but it was nothing not manageable but was all fun actually.
01:40:59 2344
A32. HRN-2379
In: 01.40.59 Out: 01.41.55

Like seriously thought about? (talks) No not like that but uh I was uh, I could kill uh you know what strangely I could I could I love animals, you know, and when I see the green peace guys, you know sometimes I think like they should, somebody should just give them a gun or something, you know, does that make sense? And also I have 3 kids you know if somebody like messed around with my kids I could I could kill. But I don’t I necessarily don’t want to be an assassin, I don’t want to have a gun in my house, you know, I don’t want to shoot at anybody, or want to be shot at, and uh I’m actually a peaceful person but sometimes you know you think like, get a gun!
