Not specifically to do research no I was kind of accidentally kept running into armed forces personal in airports and other places over the last two years or so which is kind of you know having conversations with them taking pictures and generally being supportive of the troops.

Well you hope you’re always getting it right, you want to be as honest as you can with your feelings because the one thing we don’t know is did we get it right because we see the troops come home, we see them on a tarmac, we see them with there families out there and they get together and they hug, they take pictures and they leave so nobody goes by a week later, you know NBC news doesn’t go by the house a week later and go ‘ so you happy to have them home?’ and they go ‘ well dudes a lil strange I dunno ‘. They don’t ask them that so we don’t really know but in my case I tried as honestly as I could to portray a doctor who has a sense of failure because he couldn’t save enough lives, he couldn’t save enough limbs, and he felt like he didn’t do his job and when he wouldn’t do his job he just cut his fingers off so he wouldn’t have to care who landed on his table. And hopefully I did an honest portrayal for somebody who has to do that and who needs the support of his wife and you know whatever outreach programs he could get because apparently he didn’t have any colleagues that he could talk to about it or anybody that shared that experience that had been in Army medical core or anything else so he had to swallow it and deal with it.

Well knowing that you don’t want to hurt the people around you the people that you love and being in that tirade and the end to that whole thing seeing the son with the piercing and him acting violently to it the last thing you want to do is hurt the people around you and have them afraid of you in that way and it makes you afraid of yourself in that way to say that I can do something like this to not only someone I love but someone I created then I am really screwed up and I don’t need to be around, not only do I not need to be around them but I don’t need to be around anyone, that suicidal point you go to before somebody says look were going to get you some help and hopefully, or fortunately for my particular character my wife and I had this passionate kind of connection that kept us together and she has come fiercely independent since I’ve been gone but she still loved him to the point where she’s willing to step in the line of fire for him and you know protect him the way she’s protecting those kids.
