Sound Bite: Taylor Lautner, Rachelle Lefevre, Edi Gathegi – when did you first hear of Twilight
Lautner – It uh, actually it was right after I got the role. I had no idea what Twilight was when I auditioned for it and um my agents and managers were telling me uh they were like, “This one’s pretty big. You want this one.” I was like, “Okay. I’ve never heard of it.” Um and then when I was cast I immediately did my research and found out how big this was and what they were talking about and I was blown away, I was like, “Wow, I mean, what am I getting myself into?” This has the potential of being huge, so now I’m just like stoked to be a part of it. (talks)
Lefevre – Sure I read uh I had heard of the books but I hadn’t had a chance to read them yet and I got the audition, picked up Twilight, read it right before the audition, and then um immediately after the audition without finding out whether I got the part or not I read the 2 books. (talks)
Gathegi – I didn’t have much understanding of what this movie was before I auditioned but it was meeting Catherine Hardwicke in the room and feeling her energy and her enthusiasm for this project that she was gonna direct that made me want to be a part of it and it wasn’t until like I found out that I was being seriously considered for Laurent that I read the books and I just became an instant fan and I understood why this was such a popular series because I sort of fell in love with it as well.

Sound Bite: Taylor Lautner, Rachelle Lefevre, Edi Gathegi – why did you fall in love with the books?
Gathegi – Well for me um I think that Stephanie Meyer has created uh a world which is our world um and it’s about this romance between a human and a vampire and once you’ve invested in this romance between the 2, you sort of just go with the whole vampire thing. Um and I think that’s accessible, it’s not otherworldly, it’s our world.

Sound Bite: Taylor Lautner, Rachelle Lefevre, Edi Gathegi – was he surprised at how much they changed his look?
Lautner – Yeah I mean I uh I read the books so I knew that I was going to have to have longer hair than what I have uh but I didn’t realize how long it was gonna be, and I was really anxious because I was like, “What is it gonna look like?” Um so yeah I was, when I had my wig fitting, I was very surprised, and I was like, “Wow, this is gonna be fun.” Uh yeah and uh the wig an adventure itself for me. It was uh it was crazy. It was itchy, it was always in my face. Yes I’m telling this again.
Lefevre – No I just love it that he was like so hindered by his hair.
Lautner – I was. (talks)
Lefevre – Yeah yeah it was even longer before so I mean he turned to me at one point and he was like, “how do you do it?” I was like, “I manage.”
Lautner – How do you eat? It was in my face!
Lefevre – Yeah I mean it’s, you know, it’s not like it’s alive in any way, you know it isn’t clawing on me.
Lautner – That’s what it felt like.

Sound Bite: Taylor Lautner, Rachelle Lefevre, Edi Gathegi – do you say you play the bad vampire?
Gathegi – That’s the easiest way to describe it, you know it’s about this vampire who’s trying to protect this the love of his life from himself as well as from the bad vampires, but I wouldn’t go so far as to call my vampire a bad vampire. He’s a vampire. He eats human beings, that’s what makes him creepy. But he’s actually somebody with a conscience and you know some sort of a moral compass and not entirely bad.

Sound Bite: Taylor Lautner, Rachelle Lefevre, Edi Gathegi – your moral compass isn’t as good
Lefevre – I actually think that Victoria’s moral compass is spot-on. Um because you know it’s survival of the fittest and I woke up one day and I was the fittest. And I think it’s as simple as that. Everybody else is below me on the pecking order, and um and that’s just the way Victoria’s gonna keep it.
Gathegi – She also subscribes to eye for an eye, doesn’t she?
Lautner – Yes, yeah, or 4 eyes for 1 eye.
Gathegi – Right.
Lautner – Right?
