Sound Bite: Guy Pearce – you don’t realize what’s gonna happen once you finish a film
No of course, no absolutely. And you can, you sort of can’t think about that really, you just have to respond I think to your own um you know your own sort of psychological response, you know what feels real and whether your imagination is sparked or whether or not you sort of get something out of it and it’s hard to even know what that might be I suppose. I guess it’s like a book and reading a book and it sticks with you, it resonates, or it sort of doesn’t. you know?

Sound Bite: Guy Pearce – how many scripts does he go through
Yeah I mean I probably don’t read as many scripts as you know other more well-known actors might but um I probably read um I don’t know 5 or 6 scripts a week and I probably you know do one out of every you know (talks) Yeah 50 to a hundred I guess, and they’ll be ones that I’ll be really interested in and say yep I’d like to move forward with this we’ll go and try and raise our money and 3 years later they still haven’t raised their money so there will be things that I’m interested in or sort of kind of interested in and it doesn’t quite, talking to the director you sort of realize you’re not quite on the same page.

Sound Bite: Guy Pearce – on getting projects to take off
Absolutely, I mean I’ve been asked before whether I’m interested in directing and I think, look I’m interested in the directing part that’s actually on set you know when you’re talking to other actors, but the whole idea of trying to get a film off the ground and you see people at film festivals saying you know, seven years, wow. That’s uh you know consistent.

Sound Bite: Guy Pearce – what resonated, and on Cheadle being producer
He was and look the fact that he was involved was something that I was really interested in um it’s just smart you know and it felt really realistic. It felt very um like he was sort of getting a slice of life that you wouldn’t normally, and yet it’s a subject that we’ve all got hovering in the back of our minds clearly because of past recent sort of events you know um I think it was the way in which Jeffery, the writer/director sort of tackled the subject you know through the eyes of Don and through faith rather than justice sort of a pulley story or a FBI story as such and so finally enough on some level I probably emotionally connected more with what Don has going on with the film than I might have with my own character, but enough with my own character to warrant doing it. Um but less so say than you know choosing to do Andy Warhol in Factory Girl where that was all about the character from the end of the script it needed work and so the weight is distributed differently at different times you know.

Sound Bite: Guy Pearce – on Don doing intelligent films
Yeah absolutely, I mean. (talks) Of course and I think he’s just somebody I think who has great insight and great perception you know he’s he you know his BS meter is pretty good I think and he’s aware of kind of formula and clichés and all that sort of stuff that is thrown up in films too often I think and he’s just not interested in that sort of stuff. And so when I knew he was part of this, I feel like I think probably in a similar way to him as far as the work we’re interested in so yeah I just sort wanted to jump on board.
