Sound Bite: Jon Favreau – on new franchises
Yeah for sure because what happens is if they do well next thing you know is they’re a franchise as you have two three four of a franchise and it starts filling up you know the holiday season, the summer season so there’s not room for new franchises so were one of the few new ones.

Sound Bite: Jon Favreau – on feed back from movie
Well I only know from what I see on the internet and what I what I hear like at conventions like Comic Con but I know whenever we’ve put a pieces of information out there like the fact that Robert was cast people seem supportive, when they saw the picture of the suit design they liked it, when we showed footage at Comic Con everybody went nuts and they you know it became a bit of a sensation in that community and then that slowly bubbled up through the mainstream and now people everywhere seem to know about the movie and want to see it. (talks) I think more than most comic book movies it is yeah.

Sound Bite: Jon Favreau – making the film realistic
Yeah that was a big this, the idea of plausibility cause I think, look its not going to be realistic its science fiction, it’s a little bit bigger than life but you didn’t want to make it that anything was possible just cause it was magic, you didn’t want to make it Harry Potter, you know what I mean. It’s a, you wanted to ground it in reality more than that and so we created rules and stuff with them and and part of it also is the way you present the visual effects, the more realistic you make the suit look and the mechanisms behind it the more you buy that this suite can really exist.

Sound Bite: Jon Favreau – on Iron Man Suit
Yeah it does, yeah the suit does a lot of stuff it cant do in the books I mean it shoot reposer beams out of its palms and it fly’s and its armor and it has super strength and all those things but we wanted all the gadgetry have a lot of detail and intricacy and I was really inspired when I saw what they did with The Transformers especially since it was ILM the same vender that did that film so we really looked for opportunities to show flaps and things that open and things that reveal themselves and compartments, all of those hidden in a sleek design.

Sound Bite: Jon Favreau – on getting attached to the film
No they hired me, they had, they had gotten this property back from New Line, New Line I guess had been trying to make the movie in the early 90’s, it never came off the ground and when Marvel formed its own studio they got the rights back to certain heroes one of them was Iron Man, The Hulk is another one, Thor, Captain America and the first one they wanted to make was Iron Man, they approached me about it and and so I set out to make the film as best as I could and tried to take the fans into account.

Sound Bite: Jon Favreau – harder making Blockbuster or Indie
Its big, uh it’s scarier when you’re working on a little one to be honest because you don’t have a lot of money and you don’t know if anybodies going to see it and you also only are living by the charm of the dialogue and the performances of the actors, here you know we knew we always would have uh fun action set piece every 20 minutes or so to fall back on and entertain people and movies like this do well whether there good movies or bad movies you know so there’s a safety in knowing that if you have exciting action its gonna do well in the market place. The challenge for me as a filmmaker was to hold it to a higher standard and actually have good performances and a good cast to support the movie.

Sound Bite: Jon Favreau – On Robert Downey Jr.
Yeah Roberts the best and he’s a choice that I don’t think we’d be able to go with had this been a studio film so the idea that Robert Downey Jr. grounded this movie and added a certain dimension and a certain emotional uh grounding to the film was great for me as a filmmaker to have him.
