Sound Bite: Carla Gugino – this being a family film
And that’s what I think is so important these days too is I feel like you know everybody is trying to get everything to be movies that should be for adults, they’re trying to get them to be PG-13 to get more people and what I love about Watchmen is that that movie is innately dark. The source material is incredibly dark and incredibly complex and deals with a lot of adult issues, and so I’m so glad that that movie is rated R and I’m so glad that then this is rated PG is like you know is a movie for the family and that everybody can go see it and I feel like those lines have been sort of muddled lately and with these 2 movies I think it is really clear and makes me happy.

Sound Bite: Carla Gugino – is Dwayne as genuine as he seems
Absolutely, absolutely. He’s such a great guy and so good at what he does and so committed to what he does and a true professional and thinks about other people and you know it’s all the things that you think are true.

Sound Bite: Carla Gugino – was this a big movie set
You know what it was big um we had some green screen stuff like the mars exhibit obviously was just us in front of a green screen and uh they made the planets come to life around us. Um but it was pretty big, like the spaceship was real and that was amazing to see in that huge hangar and um and uh the really cool sort of set where we were, the white suits, that was all built and amazing so it was impressive working on the set for sure.

Sound Bite: Carla Gugino – is she too young to remember the original
No you know what I was too young to have seen it in the theaters but I did I was a big fan on video as a kid. Yeah and uh so I remember them and I love them and in fact when they said they were gonna redo them I thought, oh god that sounds like a great idea because a lot of people don’t remember them or have like a very fond memory but kind of vague um but also like this became then a reimagining because it is taking a lot of things from it and then expanding on it which I love.

Sound Bite: Carla Gugino – did she meet the original stars who had cameos
I did and they were both so lovely and so happy to be there and you know and uh I kind of loved the particular cameos they have too because they’re both very instrumental in helping the kids escape from a particular situation so it made me happy.

Sound Bite: Carla Gugino – adults can be entertained as well…
Yeah definitely and I think something that was really important while we were shooting it is that and also like when I did Spy Kids I think that was very much a part of that as well which is kids can really enjoy it, it’s super empowering for them, it’s really exciting but also adults can go and have a great time and you’re not sitting there looking at your watch wondering when am I gonna get out of the theater you’re like this is a really fun ride, so.

Sound Bite: Carla Gugino – what’s next
You know I actually just finished filming a movie called Elektra Luxx and then doing a play that is now going to Broadway a Eugene O’Neil play called Desire Under the Elms that we um we open on Broadway on April 27th.

Sound Bite: Carla Gugino – acting for theater and film different beasts
It’s a different beast. Yeah it is it is. I love the fact that I get to do both I mean I’m so, theater is such a big part of my life as is doing films and television so for me as an actor I learned so much from each different medium. (talks) You do. (talks) It does I mean it’s really I just did this play in Chicago at Goodman, Brian Denehy and Paul Schreiber and we had 900 people and the Broadway house we moved to is 1300 people, so you have a thousand people with you every night experiencing it and it really does, every performance is absolutely different because the personality of the audience is so different so, and it’s a Eugene O’Neil tragedy I mean it’s a hugely dramatic piece of work too so it couldn’t be more different than this.
