Sound Bite: Will Smith *RC Round Up
You know Clooney don’t come sit in for me for 10 minutes, you know what I mean? (talks) And talk about Seven Pounds. You know I’m a, George I need to get something to drink and use the bathroom. Can you do this please?
Sound Bite: Will Smith – him and blockbusters
I got 4 more locked and loaded. I got the next 4, and then I’m all out, I’m all out! No this, I love the uh from the first read of this script, you know the idea of you know what this journey is and what it means and you know I usually don’t have that level of emotional reaction reading a script. It’s usually intellectual. Um but this one wrecked me over and over and over again.
Sound Bite: Will Smith – you’re telling people the movie is a tearjerker
Yeah it’s um, you know Gabriele has this ability, he also directed Pursuit of Happyness, right? Where it makes you cry, right, but it’s a man cry, you know it’s not, it’s like a male chick flick, you know what I mean, where you can let the woman in you come out. I don’t know if that was a good selling point, you know. (talks) Yeah it’s like Pursuit of Happyness was really all, you know it was a male journey but yet at the end of it it was like it just touches that sensitive spot in a masculine way and Gabriele really has that skill and I think he’s done it again with this one.
Sound Bite: Will Smith – did you have to fight for the content of the film
You know we, the relationships that we have um in this business are partnerships, so it’s not, we don’t I’m not dictating and the studio’s not dictating and producing partners we’re like it’s we get the smartest people we can find, we all get in a room and we agree that if we all agree that it should be something pretty good, you know so it’s um, it’s terrifying. It’s like, to have, it’s like being in a fight and not being able to use weapons that you have. So we gotta fight but I can’t use my special effects, I can’t use my aliens, I can’t use my jokes, I can’t use you know my uh charming Fresh Prince guy.
Sound Bite: Will Smith – does he put himself in the role
Well it the, you know, it always starts with me from other peoples stories. So I find real-life stories that reflect the experiences of the character. And as much as you talk to people and understand you know it starts with empathy and grows to sympathy into a pure comprehension of the emotional pattern, so and it’s dark to live there as an actor, especially for me something so totally opposite of who I really am.
