Sound Bite: Tyler Perry – is it a genre he’s done before?
You know I say it’s I’ve got so many different sides of stories I want to tell and this was another side of a story. You know I’ve got the Madea silliness that’s really great but then I like doing that, but then this movie falls in line with Daddy’s Little Girl and Why Did I Get Married? So it’s almost like two different brands at work. There’s Madea Brown’s silliness and then there’s a whole nother brand that’s doing something else, so that’s the way I look at it.

Sound Bite: Tyler Perry – where did the story come from
The story was born out of me, just my head rising above, because I was underground for so long and did I had so much success, and when I started to rise above and Hollywood started to take note, I started to ask myself, do I like this? Do I like the attention? Do I like the negativity? Do I like it, and it was really smothering me so I asked myself this question, are you living or are you existing, and the whole film came out of that and Leann Womack “I Hope You Dance,” all of that came out of that moment.

Sound Bite: Tyler Perry – when did he write it
No this was about, I wrote this movie last year, so it’s about that time that I was going through this, but the year before is when I started having the issues.

Sound Bite: Tyler Perry – what is it about his success that didn’t feel….
You know what it is I’ve been famous with my own black people for a long time and when I go anywhere there was so much love and support being shown, I wasn’t used to the other side of it. There was all of this love, there was all of this support, there’s all of the encouragement, but then when you know I entered the Hollywood realm there’s a whole nother level where it’s not that, it’s a bunch of negativity that is thrown at you constantly, and you go ok, how do I deal with this? But I’ve learned, I’ve got it now, because I’ve got this kind of go to hell kind of thing going on that I really enjoy, so.

Sound Bite: Tyler Perry – how did he come up with the relationships in the film
Well I started when I started writing this I wanted to just write, I started with those characters because everything revolved around them so I started focusing on those stories and they’re funny to me, the things I was hearing them say, because when I’m writing it’s almost like I’m watching the movie myself so I see that and I’ve got friends who have got great relationships, I mean Opera and Gail has great fun like that, they have great relationships, their road trip kind of inspired some stuff so you know my mother and her girlfriends, my aunt and her girlfriends, so I got pretty good examples.

Sound Bite: Tyler Perry – filmmakers don’t think Kathy Bates will be in their film
Sure, sure, I was like, she’s not gonna do this, but Rueben Canon’s like, no she may, so I sent her the script and for her to do it, for her to say yes first of all blew my mind, I was like this you know when she came in, and then to watch her work was unbelievable.
