Sound Bite: Will Smith – on his unique roles
Well I think, you know, it’s um I’ve sort of found a lane right now that uh what’s sort of been missing in you know these big blockbuster movies um not missing necessarily, but the idea of putting the focus on a performance at the middle of the movie and allowing the character to dictate the direction of the movie, rather than the conventional genre necessities.

Sound Bite: Will Smith – on Charlize Theron
Charlize is fantastic, just um very funny, um I love her range, you know that’s always uh something that’s attractive to me, someone who can put on a gown and be at the White House and also throw some jeans on and be at an old school public enemy concert.

Sound Bite: Will Smith – what attracted him to the film
Right I just I love the idea of throwing out all of the superhero elements of it and it’s really about a guy who has a problem who’s struggling to sort of integrate his power into his life, and then it becomes a buddy movie and then there’s a romantic element, so it continues to change but it changes around the emotion of a guy versus like we have no super villain, and that was a really huge choice that we made.

Sound Bite: Will Smith – a superhero sleeping on a park bench
Yeah hahaha yeah that’s a little new, that’s definitely a little new. It’s the, to me when I choose movies I’m always looking for the germ of the idea. Is the germ of the idea something that’s interesting that people will wanna see? It’s Friday night, the lights go down in the movie theater, does the one line spark interest? An alcoholic superhero, you know.
