HISTORIC FILMS strives to provide it's footage at affordable rates. We understand that not all budgets are the same. Sometimes those "labor of love" projects need all the help they can get. So, in many cases, we will provide clients with "Research Material" free of charge.
Clients also have the option of using our NEW CLIPS on DEMAND and COMPS ONLINE SERVICES which also provide specific footage for their research immediately at no or very little cost.
License fees for usage vary depending on the rights you require. In most cases Historic Films can save clients a great deal of time and money by mastering requested materials at its in-house editing facility. We request that clients pay the full license fee upon receipt of master material.
HISTORIC FILMS doesn't provide films to collectors or for home use. Upon receipt of your research request a Historic Films representative will contact you directly to discuss your project and your request.
The following rates may apply:
RESEARCH: $125.00 FOR MOST ORDERS. THIS INCLUDES TAPE STOCK AND DUBBING OF SPECIFIC SHOTS. THESE FEES ARE DEDUCTABLE FROM YOUR MASTER FOOTAGE ORDER.
LICENSING RATES: A standard MINIMUM fee of $500.00 is charged once master footage is ordered. The specific rights required will determine the minimum fee.
MASTERING: THE FEES FOR DUBBING FOOTAGE ONTO A BROADCAST QUALITY MASTER ARE: $100.00 for the lab time and $25.00 per source tape that you access and $30.00 for tape stock.
THE FEES FOR POSTING MASTER FOOTAGE (QuickTime, AVI…) ONTO OUR CLIENT FTP SERVER FOR DOWNLOAD ARE: $100.00 for the lab time and $25.00 per source tape that you access.
WE ACCEPT VISA, AMERICAN EXPRESS, AND MASTER CARD. IN CERTAIN CASES COMPANY P.O. ORDERS MAY ALSO BE ACCEPTED IN LIEU OF C.O.D. PAYMENT.

Licensing
Footage provided by Historic Films is not sold but, instead, licensed. This means we provide clients with the necessary rights to use our footage in a particular production only. The licensed material may not be sold, rented or re-used in any production other than that specified in the license agreement. Historic Films must be contacted if additional rights are required.

Policies
License agreements provided by Historic Films provide clearance for the motion picture copyright only. In some cases, additional rights may be neccessary (i.e. music publishing and image & likeness). All third party rights are expressly the responsibility of the licensee to obtain.
Ordering
Screening cassette(s) need not be returned. Clients may keep them on hand for all their future projects. Final elements can be provided on any format. These elements must be returned within 30 days of completion of the project. Final viewing cassettes of the incorporated material must be provided to Historic Films when the edit is completed.
